Beauty Writer & Content Editor
About Me
I am an independent writer and content editor, with over 25 years
experience in the beauty industry.
As an award-winning magazine journalist and former beauty director in the UK,
I have worked across a broad range of titles, from glossy bi-monthly magazines
to the fast-paced digital market. My career has included everything
from interviewing celebrities and industry experts, through to styling
editorial shoots and creating compelling copy.
I currently live in San Francisco, CA and when I'm not knee-deep in the latest
retinol cream, you'll find me skiing, playing very average golf or volunteering
at my local dog rescue home.
Work Experience
2012 - Today
I moved to the USA from London, UK after working in magazine publishing for 16 years. I'm now a freelance content writer
and editor in San Francisco, CA.
From 2014 to 2020 I worked remotely as Head of Content
at HintMD, an aesthetics and skincare platform.
After shaping tone of voice from launch, my role included sole responsibility for the company's consumer blog, plus social media, web content, brand communications and marketing.
I now concentrate on creating original beauty content for
clients in the digital space.
Recent clients have included:
Amazon, Ella + Mila, TruSkin, HIGHBORN London, Pure Yeva, SkinSAFE, Vaseline, Woosh Beauty and Zoa Beauty.
2004 - 2012
As Beauty Director of Reveal magazine at Hearst UK, I was responsible for all beauty content – from concept to publication.
I wrote snappy news and trend stories, in-depth articles and celebrity beauty gossip on a weekly basis. My role also included conducting celebrity interviews and styling photographic shoots.
During my time at Reveal I was chosen to star in a global TV commercial for TRESemmé haircare.
1999 - 2004
I spent five years as Deputy Health & Beauty Editor at
19 magazine – a young women's glossy monthly at Time Inc. UK.
My role included styling creative shoots
and writing informative and engaging health and beauty
features.
While at 19, I won many industry awards for
my innovative writing, and frequently represented the
magazine on TV and radio.
1996 - 1999
My career started out as Style & Beauty Writer at Britain's biggest selling consumer hair and beauty magazine, HAIR.
Being in a small editorial team of just three meant I learnt everything about the publishing business while perfecting my passion for writing and editing.
Other past freelance work included:
-
Writing advertorials for Argos, Asda, Avon, Clarins, Dove, E45, Freederm, Head & Shoulders, Kenco, Lloyds Pharmacy,
Max Factor, Pantene, Ponds, Simple, Soft & Gentle, TRESemmé and very.co.uk
-
Sponsored shoots for Batiste and L’Oréal Paris
-
Editorial content for the Sunday Express newspaper, handbag.com, getlippy.com, boots.com and a beautifulworld.co.uk as well as Now, Mizz, Best, Esprit and Pure Beauty magazines
